Description
What is Zopiclone?
Sleep is essential for every person on the planet, because it allows the body to rest, repair, and prepare for the stresses and strains of the next day. Not being able to get a good night’s sleep can really mess up a person’s daily life, and can have a huge impact on work, family, and health.
It has been estimated that around 33% of UK residents are currently suffering from insomnia or some form of sleeping disorder, and it is rapidly becoming a major public health problem. This means, that instead of the normal sleep cycle, around 13 million people are struggling with a vicious cycle of a tired but overactive brain that races from one thought to the next, resulting in poor sleep, stress, and anxiety.
Unlike old school benzodiazepines sleeping tablets, zopiclone is one of a family of relatively new sleeping aids and is the active ingredient used to make the brand names Zimovane, and Imovane.
First developed in 1986 by the French pharmaceutical company Rhone-Poulenc, zopiclone tablets are a non-benzodiazepine sedative that have been proven to be an effective sleeping aid.
Sometimes called a “Z drug”, it works by tranquilizing the central nervous system, and improves the effectiveness the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) that is produced by the brain. This naturally occurring amino acid blocks some of the brain’s signals, and reduces the activity in the nervous system.
This medication has been widely prescribed because it helps people with insomnia and other sleeping disorders to fall asleep quickly, and allows sufferers to get a solid 8-9 sleep without waking up in the middle of the night.
